Comparison of 'Holes' Book and Film
The Holes is about a boy called Stanley Yelnats and he is sent to Camp Green Camp as a punishment. He has to do a hole every day. One day he ran away to find refuge on gods thumb, and he did. When he got back to camp, his lawyer was there waiting to take him home. I liked how the book used, it is really effective phrases because it helped me understand more about the story. Therefore, I preferred the book because It could broaden my imagination.
There are lots of similarities between the book and the film. The first one is everyone has the same names and no new characters were introduced. As well the setting was the same because it was set in Texas. The plot was the mainly the same too, the shoes fell on his head in both the movie and the book, they drank sploosh and the yellow-spotted lizards didn’t bite them because they ate onion. I think, they kept these things the same because they are important and they are the main parts of the story. If I was writing the story or making the film, I would have kept these things the same too.
There are even more differences in the book and film than similarities. The first difference is in the book Stanley is described as a chubby kid but in the movie he is skinny. I think the film makers decided to change his appearance because they want the actor to look the best he can and in the film Zero is not black whereas in the film he is mixed race. In the book, X-Ray tells Stanley he has been at Camp Green Lake for twelve months but in the movie he says only been there for six moths. I think these let the film down a lot.
In conclusion, there are a lot of similarities and differences, but similarities are I liked how the book used really effective phrases because it helped me understand more about the story. Therefore, I preferred the book because It could broaden my imagination. But, I disliked how Louis Sachar the scorpions did not do any harm to anyone whereas all the other animals did.
